True to his word, Tony Ferguson gave an up-close-and-personal look at the coronavirus testing procedure.
Ahead of his interim lightweight title fight in the main event of UFC 249 against Justin Gaethje this Saturday, Ferguson said on a media conference call that he would share a video of his COVID-19 test with the fans.
Sure enough, he posted a clip on Instagram of the short test, of which he said, “It felt weird.”
“COVID-19 testing, essential to the game,” Ferguson wrote in the accompanying caption.
Other than a brief shiver and a cough, “El Cucuy” didn’t appear too bothered by the procedure and he and his team were all smiles afterwards. This weekend, Ferguson seeks his 13th straight win and second interim UFC championship.
Earlier this week, it was reported that testing for UFC 249 in Jacksonville, Fla., is being conducted by the “UFC Medical Team” and that it includes both swab and antibody tests. Fighters will also have daily temperature checks and be questioned about coronavirus symptoms. Test results are expected to become available prior to Saturday’s show.
